Meet the Team

"May we take this opportunity to thank everyone for making the entire process "pain free".  From the initial contact subsequent to viewing your website - through to eventual completion of the work - everything was handled in a very professional manner.  May we additionally take the opportunity to commend the site team, who completed the works to the highest standard.  They were polite, hard working and totally unobtrusive.  They always left the side in a tidy condition and it is plain to see that they clearly take a great pride in their work.."

Meet the Team

The Gardens Galore team is a real bunch of hardy perennials. Our people tend to stay with us, which works wonders for consistency of service and quality, not to mention training and development (as is borne out by our Investors in People Award).

The team is one big extended family. On the one hand we have the 'clean hands' – the planners, managers and administrators.

On the other we have the 'dirty' hands – trained landscapers and gardeners who do the hands-on work.

We're totally co-ordinated and together we can turn our hands to anything.

Let us introduce you to some of our team...

  • Jim Byiers, MD

    Jim Byiers, MD

Gardens Galore is Jim's baby. His vision powers the business and he makes sure everything is running like a well-oiled machine. At the same time he gets out and about, meeting new customers and getting re-acquainted with old ones. Doesn't stand still for a minute.

  • Jen Byiers, Director

    Jen Byiers, Director

One head, a multitude of hats – Finance, HR, Sales & Marketing, Customer Service - you name it she’s wearing it. Jen has introduced procedures & systems throughout the business. She’s the glue that keeps the team together (though not in the least bit sticky to deal with).

  • Jamie Byiers, Director

    Jamie Byiers, Director

Jamie has worked closely with Jim since the beginning and Jamie has honed his own skills and knowledge. His main role is Project Manager – running projects from start to finish, managing staff, sorting materials, pricing and liaising with customers.

  • Scott Byiers, Director

    Scott Byiers, Director

Wherever Jamie goes, Scott is never far behind helping with the on-site teams. Scott is a joiner by trade, which is invaluable when it comes to training staff in decking and fencing. And, in the not too distant future, he’ll follow his brother into a Project Manager's role.

  • Jayne Macleod, Admin

    Jayne Macleod, Admin

Jayne joined us in 2005. It's her task to assist in running the office, something she does with super-efficiency. On top of which she's a computer expert, which is great support for people mostly used to wielding shovels and driving diggers.

  • Kim Bain, Admin

    Kim Bain, Admin

If they gave degrees in being organised Kim would have First Class Honours. One of the newest members of our family, Kim helps run the office and look after our customers. Nothing is too much trouble and she’s always on the go. (Must be all that coffee she drinks.)

  • Mike McKay, Landscaping Team Leader

    Mike McKay, Landscaping Team Leader

Mike has been with us for what seems like centuries. He takes a real pride in his work, and somehow manages to remain cool, calm and collected at the same time. When he’s not gardening there’s nothing he likes more than a nice cup of tea and a good book.

  • Greig Hughes, Landscaping Team Leader

    Greig Hughes, Landscaping Team Leader

In his previous life Greig was a painter & decorator. He swapped his brushes for a digger and now he’s a fully-fledged landscaper. Likes footie and beer (not necessarily in that order) and he’s easy to spot in the summer – Greig’s the one with the shorts and knobbly knees.

  • Trevor Johnston, Landscaping Team Leader

    Trevor Johnston, Landscaping Team Leader

Trevor is our upbeat Irish bricky and he's certainly got the gift of the gab. In Trevor's own words great gardens, Manchester United and anything sweet is "dead on." However, for some reason he has a pathological hatred of olives.

  • Grant Whyte, Landscaper Trainee

    Grant Whyte, Landscaper Trainee

Grant has worked his way from labourer to landscaper. He's a real grafter, his attention to detail is second to none and he hates mess. (Pernickety is his middle name.) Make his day and ask him about his tattoos.

  • Garth Downie, Gardening Team Leader

    Garth Downie, Gardening Team Leader

In total, Garth has been with us for 6 years and he's now a well kent face to all our regular garden maintenance customers. Accommodating, easy going and totally reliable, Garth gets his kicks pumping iron or standing in muddy fields listening to loud rock music.
